Hello, we are the Lab of Pathogenesis of Viral Infections (VIPLab) at the Department of Public Health and Pediatrics, University of Turin
Welcome to our official page! Here you can explore who we are and what we do.
Currently, we are working on human Herpesviruses, such as human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV or HHV-5), Herpes Simplex type 1 (HSV-1), and Herpes Simplex type 2 (HSV-2). Our research interests are broad and include different aspects of viral pathogenesis.
We aim to elucidate the immunomodulatory mechanisms of herpesviruses, their interplay with viral DNA sensors and restriction factors, viral evasion strategies and viral evolution. Our research group also focuses on herpesviruses impact on the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, and the contribution of HCMV genetic variability to the severity of congenital infection. We are actively screening new compounds with antiviral properties against HCMV, HSV-1, and HSV-2.
